The Form
The iklwa was forged in the early nineteenth century during the reign of Shaka kaSenzangakhona. A short, broad-bladed thrusting spear, it changed how the Zulu kingdom fought and how the kingdom understood itself. The leaf-shaped blade is among the most recognisable forms in southern African material culture.
The marquise stone is the closest equivalent in the language of fine jewellery — the same elongated leaf, the same point at each end. Set east-west across the finger, it carries the form of the iklwa in lab-grown diamond rather than in steel.
The Light
Umsebe is the Zulu word for ray. The open cradle beneath each centre stone is built so that light passes through from below. The ray is rendered in the way the piece is made.

14K yellow gold throughout. Lab-grown diamonds, IGI-certified, D colour, VVS1 clarity, Excellent cut. Centre stones from 1ct to 1.5ct. Made to order in Cape Town.
