Engagement Rings South Africa — Lab Diamond and Moissanite, Set in Solid Gold

An engagement ring is not a purchase you make casually. It sits on her hand every day, through every meeting, every morning, every quiet moment. The metal must hold. The stone must keep its fire. The setting must stay secure years after the proposal has become a memory retold at dinner tables. Heritage & Co. builds engagement rings to that standard — solid gold, certified stones, made to order in South Africa — because anything less does not deserve the weight of the promise it carries.

We work exclusively with two stone types: GRA-certified moissanite (D colour, VVS1 clarity) and IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds (D colour, VVS1 clarity). Both are optically exceptional. Both are ethically produced. The difference is origin and price — and we lay out both transparently so you can choose with confidence rather than confusion.

Three Collections, Three Price Points

Every Heritage & Co. engagement ring belongs to one of three collections, each defined by its metal and stone combination. There are no hidden tiers, no quote-on-request inflation, and no pressure to spend beyond what makes sense for your life.

The Invicta Collection starts from R16,995. These are classic solitaire and accent designs set in 10K solid gold with GRA-certified moissanite — D colour, VVS1 clarity. The Invicta is for couples who value clean design, enduring materials, and a price that reflects intelligence rather than compromise. 10K gold is harder and more scratch-resistant than 14K, which makes it a quietly practical choice for daily wear. Every Invicta ring is made to order in your size and ships with a GRA grading report and branded presentation box.

The Aeterna Collection ranges from R21,995 to R34,995. This is where Heritage & Co.’s design language opens up. 14K solid gold — the international standard for fine engagement rings — paired with GRA-certified moissanite in D/VVS1. Aeterna settings include pavé bands, hidden halos, cathedral shoulders, and split shanks. The gold is richer, the settings more intricate, and the overall presence on the hand is unmistakable. If someone asks where it’s from, the ring should answer before you do.

The Claritas Collection starts from R44,995. These are IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds set in 18K solid gold — the same metal purity required by Cartier, Tiffany, and every heritage house in Place Vendôme. D colour, VVS1 clarity, certified by the Gemological Institute of America. A Claritas ring is indistinguishable from a mined diamond ring under any test, any loupe, any light. The only difference is the origin — and the fact that no earth was moved to create it.

Shop by Cut and Stone Shape

The cut of your centre stone defines the ring’s entire personality. A round brilliant maximises fire. An oval elongates the finger. An emerald cut trades sparkle for depth — long, architectural flashes that reward a slower look. There is no objectively superior cut. There is only the one that suits her hand, her style, and the way she moves through a room.

Browse our dedicated collections by shape:

  • Round Brilliant — The most popular cut worldwide for a reason. Maximum light return, maximum fire. Works beautifully in solitaire, halo, and pavé settings alike.
  • Oval Cut — An elongated silhouette that flatters every finger shape. Oval cuts appear larger than rounds of the same carat weight due to their extended surface area.
  • Emerald Cut — Step-cut facets create deep, mirror-like flashes rather than the sparkle of a brilliant cut. Architectural, clean, and unmistakably confident.
  • Cushion Cut — A soft square with rounded corners. Romantic, vintage-leaning, and beautifully paired with halo settings.
  • Marquise Cut — Pointed at both ends, visually dramatic. The marquise maximises carat weight — it appears larger than any other cut at the same weight.
  • Pear Shape — Part round, part marquise. Distinctive and directional, worn with the point toward the fingernail.
  • Three Stone — A centre stone flanked by two side stones. Symbolically rich — past, present, and future — and visually substantial.

We also craft radiant and princess cuts. If you have a shape in mind that you don’t see above, message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm availability and pricing within 24 hours.

Why Moissanite and Lab Diamond — Not Mined Diamond

Heritage & Co. does not stock mined diamonds. This is a deliberate choice, not a limitation.

Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65 versus diamond’s 2.42. It disperses more spectral fire — the coloured flashes you see when light strikes the stone at an angle. On the Mohs hardness scale, moissanite sits at 9.25, making it the second-hardest gemstone on earth. It will not cloud, scratch from daily wear, or lose its brilliance over decades. A D/VVS1 GRA-certified moissanite is colourless and virtually inclusion-free. In South Africa, the rand-to-dollar exchange rate makes a comparable mined diamond three to five times more expensive for an identical visual result.

Lab-grown diamonds are physically, chemically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They score 10 on the Mohs scale. They pass every diamond tester. They are graded by the IGI using the same 4Cs methodology applied to earth-mined stones. The only difference is provenance: a lab diamond is grown under controlled conditions that replicate the heat and pressure of the earth’s mantle, without the environmental and ethical costs of mining. Heritage & Co.’s Claritas collection uses exclusively IGI-certified lab diamonds in D colour, VVS1 clarity — the highest grades commercially available.

Solid Gold — Why We Never Use Plated or Vermeil

A gold-plated ring has a layer of gold between 0.5 and 2.5 microns thick — thinner than a human hair — bonded over a brass or stainless steel core. It wears through in 12 to 18 months of daily use, particularly along the band interior and around prongs. Gold vermeil is marginally better (2.5 microns over sterling silver), but the silver base tarnishes beneath the plating, creating dark spots at the wear points. Neither belongs on a ring intended to be worn for decades.

Every Heritage & Co. ring is solid gold throughout. The colour is in the alloy itself, not painted on top. Our metal options:

  • 10K Yellow Gold (Invicta Collection) — 41.7% pure gold. Harder than 14K due to higher alloy content. Excellent scratch resistance for daily wear.
  • 14K Yellow Gold (Aeterna Collection) — 58.3% pure gold. The international standard for engagement rings. Warm traditional tone.
  • 14K White Gold — Palladium alloy producing a natural silver-white colour. Rhodium-plated for bright finish.
  • 18K Yellow Gold (Claritas Collection) — 75% pure gold. The South African hallmarking standard for fine jewellery. Deep, rich colour that darkens gracefully with wear.
  • 18K Rose Gold — Copper-heavy alloy creating a warm blush tone. Available in the Aeterna and Claritas collections.

Transparent Pricing — No Surprises

Heritage & Co. lists every price on the website. There is no “enquire for pricing,” no showroom markup, and no manufactured urgency. A 1ct round brilliant moissanite solitaire in 10K gold starts from R16,995. A 2ct IGI lab diamond in 18K gold starts from R44,995. Full pricing across every cut, carat, and collection tier is published on our engagement ring pricing page.

We do not offer discounts, sales events, or coupon codes. The listed price is the fair price. If the first thing a jeweller does is offer you a discount, ask yourself what the original price was actually worth.

Made to Order in South Africa

Heritage & Co. does not hold pre-made ring inventory. Every engagement ring is crafted from raw materials to your exact specifications — finger size, gold karat, stone shape, and setting style. Production takes approximately five weeks. Before dispatch, we photograph your ring and send a quality confirmation. Every ring ships with a certificate of authenticity, the relevant grading report (GRA for moissanite, IGI for lab diamond), and a branded Heritage & Co. presentation box.

Free insured shipping nationwide — Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, and every address in between. No import duties. No international courier risk. Your ring is crafted and shipped within South Africa.

Custom Engraving

Every engagement ring and wedding band can be engraved on the inner band — a date, initials, coordinates, or a phrase that means something only to the two of you. Engraving is available as an add-on during checkout. The inscription is laser-etched for permanence and precision.
